About the West Family
Charles and Sarah West were commissioned as International Ministries- American Baptist Churches USA (ABC USA) missionaries in 1997. Prior to commissioning, Charles served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Belmont, NH . He earlier served as interim pastor at Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church in Germantown. PA. After receiving his MDiv. from the then Eastern Baptist Theological College, now Palmer University, in Wynnwood, PA.
Sarah graduated with a Business Finance degree from the University of Lafayette at Louisiana (ULL), and worked at the American Baptist Churches headquarters in the Office of the General Secretary and International Ministries for several years.
Charles and Sarah served as missionaries in partnership with the Baptist Convention of South Africa in Johannesburg, South Africa, where they lived with their three younger children Chasah, Caleb and Charliese for 8 years, while their two older children Candace and Charles II remained in the U.S. attending Princeton and Georgia Tech universities, respectively. Candace has now completed a PhD, and is lecturing at Stanford University in California, and Charles II has completed his MBA and is currently working as an Information Technologist Specialist and lives in Atlanta, Georgia. The three younger children on the field mission in Zambia are teenaged high school students.
All of the Wests, in Zambia, have a passion for ministering and seeing God's people change through His word:
- Charles, currently lecturing at the newly-opened Zambia International Theological College (ZITC) also preaches, does leadership development conferences, and evangelistic meetings in most of the nine Zambian Provinces.
- Sarah works with orphans and at-risk children reintegrating them into school, carries out ministries with women helping to empower and encourage them through study of scripture and initiates sustainable, income generating, projects that assist the women and their families.
- The younger West children on the Zambia field are also involved in ministry to youth in Baptist Convention of Zambia partner churches, develop support projects for local children to reenter Zambia Government Schools, and they participate in ministry and the work of visiting mission teams.
